About This Project

Mountain’ s Secret is the name of a restored guesthouse located in Mouresi; a region of Mount Pelion that is both culturally and architecturally protected. The guesthouse was originally constructed in the 1920’s as a two story provincial residence with a basement used for the storage of food supplies and agricultural equipment. The commission involved the restoration of the building in order to showcase its distinctive features and accentuate the use of traditional construction materials and techniques. Since the inherent needs of the project itself entailed the remodeling of the guesthouse, a principal objective became to juxtapose the old with the new. Thus, offering guests the feeling of experiencing the past while enjoying modern comforts.

The aesthetic paradox of simple objects with modern high quality materials is evident in every detail. The entire functionality and spatial arrangement of the guesthouse aims to preserve and highlight its initial residential use and to enhance the feeling of warmth and intimacy. The basement has been redesigned to incorporate the reception area, the breakfast area with a small kitchen, as well as a large day-room. The first floor comprises two bedrooms, a small lounge and reading area, while the second floor boasts two more bedrooms and a spacious lounge with windows affording stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
